The Program Assistant will work in AMNH’s out of school time programs. Specifically, the Program Assistant will work closely with AMNH’s Associate Director for Digital Learning to advance the strategic initiatives in digital learning by assisting in the developing, implementing, managing, reviewing and revising of digital youth programs. The Program Assistant will also share day-to-day responsibilities such as creating and reviewing applications from youth, set-up and clean-up of classroom space, and management of youth and teaching assistants. The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting urban youth and doing youth development work, experienced at teaching science in an informal setting, and passionate about digital media and a related interest in digital media for learning.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in science or related field. The ideal candidate will have experience with curriculum development. Candidates should have the ability to coordinate and/or participate in multiple projects, both independently and on a team, the ability to effectively communicate and share ideas both written and oral, and be able to demonstrate creativity through past projects.
The ideal candidate is excited both designing and implementing new projects, can bring their connections with existing educational, science, and/or digital media networks to expand that of the Museum’s, has experience with several digital media tools (i.e. serious games, social media, virtual worlds, mobile, social networks, video games, video production, etc.), has a short learning curve around new digital and Internet tools and applications, is available to working some evenings and some weekends, and is able to work within a fast-paced, distracting environment.
